Software Ururau

Purpose

This is the first Brazilian software which can be used for the construction of discrete event simulation models (DES).

The DES softwares (or environments) are computational tools that help the construction of simulation models using graphical interface and allow the statistical analyses of their results. These environments are applied on the study of problems that vary from logistics to manufacturing systems among others, without using analytical models of Theory of Queues.

Ururau is an open source software (license GPL – General Public license) and multiplatform since it is developed in the Java programming language. The research using this new software has been functioning as a kind of laboratory in the area of discrete event system simulation.
The main purpose of the development of the Ururau was to contribute to facilitate the diffusion, the use and the understanding of simulation in Brazil, from its practical application to the internal conception of its computational structure and source code. The aim is to make people able to use the discrete simulation and also the simulation softwares in a wider and more concrete way.

Therefore, the possibilities of scientific researches applying the Ururau are oriented to various purposes, from the use of the tool itself to the study of its constructive algorithms.  Although Ururau’s project is at its beginning, it has already had support from research-funding agencies as Rio de Janeiro State Research Foundation (Faperj): E-26/111.445/2013, E-26/100.864/2013, E-26/110.555/2013, and Brazilian agencies such as the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq): Institutional Program for Scientific Initiation Scholarships (PIBIC), besides publications in conferences and national and international journals.
